Overview

I bring over 19 years of experience and expertise as a producer, director and experiential designer to my work as a Somatic Writing facilitator.

In 2002, I completed my training as a therapeutic/autobiographical monologue facilitator, a technique combining writing and performance developed by Tanya Taylor Rubinstein, a solo show and memoir coach, and story-based trainer.

In addition to supporting you in your Somatic Writing process, I can help design and implement your one person show. We’ll collaborate to develop a multilayered experience combining art, sound, color, and tech to uniquely engage and inspire your audience with your story and message.

My integrated approach focuses on setting the stage and creating a mood via themed environments that combine set design, decor, lighting, projection, special effects, interactive art, costuming, and more. As a gifted connector, you also have access to my crack team of technical production and creative multimedia production experts, vetted from years of my working closely with them.

As a producer and director, I support your performance with professional excellence. A long term explorer of the convergence of art + science + tech + entertainment since my early involvement in Burning Man, I have created, produced, and directed exciting and immersive intimate to large scale events at SXSW Interactive and beyond.

Facilitation, design, direction, and production credits include:

StoryHealers-related events:  Standing on the Gone Side of Leaving (Dana Williams One Person Show Staged Reading), The Election Monologues: Austin , San Marcos Stories, and She Moves Like Water: Aryana Rising, a One Woman Show.

Larger scale events include: EFF@SXSW 2014: A Cyberpunk Retrofest; Showdown at Unobtainium: Tesla vs. Edison; The Spectral Panopticon: A Fundraiser for the Round Top Festival Institute; STEAM³: The Future of Education (Austin, 2014 & Atlanta, 2015)l Plutopia@SXSW Interactive: Living Systems (2009), The Science of Music (2010), The Future of Play (2011), The Future Music Summit at Round Top Festival Institute, NPO Camp, NextEcon, and many more.

Staged Readings

My work producing and directing staged readings is designed to take you beyond simply standing on a stage and reading from your script. We collaborate to develop a simple, yet enhancing “container” for your staged reading, which may include creative lighting, a slide deck, and/or staging/prop ideas. My fee includes coaching, one 3-hour rehearsal per week for two months before your show, one pre-staged reading evening at a small venue tbd, in front of a select group of people, to gear you up for the big event as well as to offer you initial feedback, direction and production of your staged reading at the venue as well as rehearsal the day/night before, and facilitation of a feedback session after your show.

Full Productions

Like the staged reading, we’ll collaborate to develop an enhancing “container” for your show, which may include creative lighting, a slide deck, and/or staging/prop ideas. My services include venue rental, 2 weeks of rehearsals, coaching, direction and production of your show (2 performances, plus a rehearsal the day/night before), tech, video shoot and post-production, marketing and PR for your show (including social media), and graphics/poster and distribution.

Maggie Duval is a Renaissance woman who can direct, produce, and do amazing technical work. I liken her to a duck, furiously paddling, while all we see is the calm on the water. I was introduced to her through Tanya Taylor Rubinstein, the premier solo show coach and teacher, who recommended Maggie to direct my one-woman show. What a great experience!

Maggie hosted rehearsals at her space, the The Treehouse, as well as organizing a first read through of the script in front a small group. We were then able to have a staged reading that was absolutely wonderful. Maggie assisted with running tech and hosting our feedback session. I have never collaborated with someone so professional! I look forward to working further with Maggie on the full production.
